Recently, my twenty-year old plastic dustbin finally split it two and there was no way to salvage it any more. This is my kitchen waste dustbin I’m talking about, which is the first halt for organic waste going to the compost pit. I was thinking of replacing it with a metal bin, which would hopefully last me for the rest of my life. Then I suddenly thought, why not a flower pot? 
And here it is, ensconced under the sink, lined with a bunch of leaves . Cheap, non-smelly (it actually absorbs smells, so I haven’t even bothered with a lid), non-slimy, easy to replace when it breaks, and no plastic!
