It’s the season of arsonists running amok here. ‘Flame of the forest’ suddenly takes on a new significance. Every day, we’re all ready with our hose pipes and green branches to beat out the fires. Sniffing constantly for smoke and listening for the crackle. Fortunately, they die out fairly quickly. So far anyway, fingers crossed.
Strangely, even these horrible events have some compensation. And that’s watching the fun that the insectivorous birds get out of it – the rollers, swallows and drongos. There’s such an air of excitement as they dart around, they’ve clearly been waiting all year for this. Among all the flames and smoke, up fly the insects, and down swoop the birds.
I wish I could get some better pics, but here’s what I have.

“Up fly the insects, and down swoop the birds.” Rather succinct summing up of…. Life?!

Haha! Maybe, but let’s hope not.

Interesting – I never would have thought of that as a result of fire – only potential danger to their habitat.

Yes, it’s surprising that anyone gets any good out of it!

Oh, my goodness! Stay safe. The bird in the picture, though is just gorgeous–lovely colors that you captured here.

Thank you! I’m no photographer and my phone is no camera. That bird is gorgeous, and it always looks so grouchy it makes me laugh.
